Family Field Trip…Lavender Farm

nature portraits

As I said in an earlier post, I met this young woman Ava, at the Traverse City Cherry Festival. It was then I decided I wanted to visit the lavender farm where she was employed. I have wanted to tour a lavender farm for years now.

When I got home, I told Vanessa about the farm and my planned trip. She wanted to go as well. SUPER!!!! We both agreed I could practice taking portraits of her and the kids with the lavender as our backdrop.

While there, we stumbled upon Ava at the back barn where they were storing some of the lavender. She was separating the lavender from the stems so it could be cleaned for culinary purposes. I was full of questions about how they treat the lavender. Ava was very informative. Loved that.

My Sweet Products

lavender products
My treasures from the lavender farm.

Before we left, I bought a few products. Two quarts of cherries…YUMMO! I also bought some lavender honey. Man…it is GOOD! Haven’t had lavender honey before. My favorite is blackberry honey. WOW! If you get a chance, you should try it. Really tasty!

I also bought a bag of lavender for tea purposes. Every morning since our family field trip, I have enjoyed some lavender tea. Tonight, I plan on enjoying the foaming bath salts in the garden tub with the jets. It is going to be a relaxing evening for Crystal. 😆

A Short Video

Here is a video of a ton of lavender drying at the farm. SO VERY COOL! The place smells heavenly.

For years, I have said to Father…I am your eternal student. I LOVE to learn. Thankfully, this world is my textbook and every single day, I get to learn something new by studying the people around me, situations in daily life, and by pursuing learning opportunities. Field trips are not just for physically immature children. We are all immature in different areas of life. Humility KNOWS there is so much we don’t know yet.

Something else I have said for years is this…the more I know…the more I know I DON’T know. Life is so much more enjoyable for me when I have the attitude of humility, growth, and learning. It keeps me pursuing growth in all areas of my life.

Nature Portraits

Here is a gallery of a few of the photos I took of Vanessa and the kids followed up by one that Vanessa took of me while I was shooting the lavender. I am proud of the portraits I took. I am still learning and growing as a photographer and look forward to more opportunities to develop my skills taking pics of people. It is my least favorite type of photography…unless it is family. 😉
