The Drama…External Hard Drives

computer, external hard drive

As a hobbyist photographer, I have accumulated thousands of pictures over the years. Once I went digital, my storage of the pictures changed to…DIGITAL storage. Imagine that. I have tried different forms of storage. For a number of years, I stored my pics on CDs…wow…that was inconvenient. Eventually, I switched over to external hard drives.

I fell in love with the concept of external hard drives. In fact, I store all my data on the external hard drive versus saving it on my desktop or my laptop. It is so much more convenient for me especially when traveling. Years’ worth of data in one place that can travel with me. For me, because I don’t trust having just one storage space, I keep a backup external hard drive to my main external hard drive.

On Friday of last week, my main hard drive died. Not good. I had purchased it in February, so this was a new device. I took a trip to Best Buy and purchased this new SanDisk SSD. Hoping the solid state will last longer. They sure are proud of those…man they are pricey. 😳

SanDisk compared to my Passport. Much thinner than the Passport.

Not only thinner but smaller in width and weight.

BUT…I love this little beauty. Super-fast and I can’t believe how small it is…and in comparison to the old ones. It is crazy how small they have become. I remember my Maxtor…that I still have is the size of a hard-back book.

Tuesday

Best Buy didn’t have my hard drive in stock, so they shipped it to me…which arrived Tuesday right after lunch. After I got done with my morning routine and had lunch, I asked Father…what is the next step for the day. This is how I live my life; I do what He tells me, then when that task is complete, I say…what next. That is how I walk by faith…step by step.

When I asked…I saw a vision of the hard drive. He was saying…I needed to spend the afternoon transferring the data from the backup hard drive onto the new hard drive. I was assuming my hard drive was getting ready to be delivered. Sure enough…the hard drive arrived, and I started transferring data.

As I did, the backup…started to fail. WOW!!!! Now my adrenals are in a state of ANXIETY. I needed to transfer pictures in the hundreds of thousands, videos, computer backups, and documents. I finished the work at midnight losing many videos I had accumulated but saving all my pictures.

Living by faith is a difficult way to walk but at times, it has its perks. Father set that up for me to keep my photos safe. So grateful!

Now though, I am looking for another backup plan. Another hard drive OR pay money online for storage. Not sure yet. Waiting on clarity on how to move forward with that.

Computer drama. Everything is great when it works. 😵‍💫
